Second Street Thrift Store is Now "Welcome Home Thrift & More"

Second Street Thrift Store will be closing at its current location at 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 21. The final date for receiving donations at that location would be 3:00 pm on Friday, April 29. In this update, we want to share some more exciting news.

​Second Street Thrift Store first opened its doors over a decade ago as a non-profit thrift store supporting HOME International, Inc. This organization partnered with two existing orphanages in India, transforming them into real homes with real families for orphan girls.

Today, Alisha and Don continue this mission at Second Street Thrift Store ("Second Street Shop"). "People regularly comment on how welcoming and refreshing the store is," Alisha states. "One person recently thanked me for having a place she could come to as a respite for her otherwise tense day.

"This is the kind of place we want our store to be, and we've worked really hard at it."

Alisha shares how it's not uncommon for a shopper to share the struggles they're facing. "Since when does a person become vulnerable with the cashier at Target?" Alisha quips. "It doesn't usually happen, but it does with us. Yes, we're a retail store, but this is our distinctive. I want our store to be a space where people can leave their stress at the door."

With the relocation, it made sense to refresh the store's brand to more intentionally align with its mission. As part of this rebrand, "Second Street Thrift Store" is changing its name to "Welcome Home Thrift & More."

The store will keep its connection to Home International and the other organizations it supports. It will continue to receive donations and contributions to help with these efforts. In addition to thrift, the store will continue to introduce new merchandise like Dixie Belle Paint, Girl Crush, Abi Art cards, home décor, and more.

"It's fun to hear the comments from people who stop in that haven't been back since we've changed things up," Alisha shares. "They usually make us aware of this through their positive feedback. One of the most common comments is how different we are compared to other thrift stores. And we like it that way."

Second Street Shop will re-open as Welcome Home Thrift & More at the Tower Shoppes in mid-July, just two miles north from its current location, along Stoudtburg Road in Adamstown.
